Jeddah, Dhu-AlQa'dah 25, 1438, August 17, 2017, SPA -- Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has received at the Peace Palace in Jeddah Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Jassem Al Thani. During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali stressed that

the relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar are brotherly relations rooted in history. The sheikh extended his mediation to open the Salwa border crossing for the entry of Qatari pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's territories. The Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques thanked Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali for his brotherly feelings, stressing the depth of historical relations between the Saudi people and the Qatari brotherly people and between the leadership in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the royal family in Qatar.

Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani said his uncle, Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali al-Thani, had visited Saudi Arabia "with the aim of resolving (some matters related to) personal belongings in Hail city of Saudi Arabia". He added on his Twitter account (@ahjh_althani) that "when he (Sheikh Abdullah) touched on the issue of Haj obstacles, they (Saudi authorities) found it an opportunity to get out of their Haj impasse and reverse the matter into an acceptance of mediation". Un giorno uno esce di casa per sistemarsi gli affari suoi e si ritrova ospite della famiglia reale.
Cose che accadono in Arabia Saudita.
Figlio di un regnante che tanto ha fatto per il Qatar, ma che di suo non ci ha messo granchè e nessuno sa cosa veramente faccia nella vita, nonostante una biografia preparata e distribuita su tutti i giornali del Golfo, da perfetto sconosciuto Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali è diventato mediatore.

Tutta questa sceneggiata doveva dimostrare al popolo del Qatar l'inettitudine della casa reale, e alla casa reale stessa, il fatto che l'Arabia Saudita sceglie gli interlocutori che gradisce.
Inoltre al Kuwait, ma ormai l'abbiamo capito tutti, che la mediazione è fallita.
Al di là dell'intrattenimento estivo con cui ci deliziano dal Golfo, rimane l'interrogativo su quanto siano disposti ad osare. Andranno avanti per i prossimi anni in attesa che Sheikh Tamim ceda, o hanno già qualcuno con cui rimpiazzarlo? Un ospite per caso da fare accomodare sul trono.
